Hipchat and Ubuntu 12.10

Update:
http://www.ubuntukiller.com/2013/04/how-to-install-hipchat-in-ubuntu.html
There's a deb client for hipchat.  I haven't gotten around to trying it, but it should be interesting figuring out how to uninstall the old client!

Old instructions after the jump!

Recently decided to fiddle around with Hipchat and the deprecated Adobe AIR for Ubuntu 12.10.  It really is a downer to install deprecated platform and I really do hope Hipchat moves off of this.  For what its worth, the client still works with Ubuntu 12.10 but not without it's fair share of woes.

Hipchat's knowledgebase is helpful on getting started.  It basically tells you to install the 32-bit libraries.    Do not install the beta deb files it tells you to because 12.10 provides newer packages already.  Also, use the last supported Adobe AIR installer (2.6).  The installer I used came from Hipchat's discussion thread on moving away from Adobe AIR.

Adobe AIR installer has a problem not detecting kwallet and gnome-keyring.  To solve this you need to do a symbolic link from /usr/lib32/libgnome-keyring.so.0 (use locate command to find the path if it's different on your system) into /usr/lib.  You can remove the link after install.  You also do not need to do the symbolic link to libadobecertstore.so because it's not there in the newer installer.

If you need getlibs, just go here and grab the deb file.  Then you can use ar to rip open the deb file and grab the shell script.
