Last King of Africa DS Walkthrough

Just a short little post here.  I've been looking for a walkthrough of the Last King of Africa on the DS and apparently, it's based on Paradise the PC game by Benoit Sokal.  In any case, YouTube seemed to be a very good resource in the form of the only Let's Play series.  However, the commentary got tiresome so, I found a nice video without commentary.  Click here to see someone play the PC version.  A decent PC guide can be found here.  You'll discover that the DS version has some variance in solutions as well as some puzzles entirely omitted.  In addition, the DS version has some touch screen puzzles inserted here and there.  Some of them do involve more pixel hunting unfortunately.  An actual DS guides in foreign languages can be seen here and here.  Also, pressing select shows the integrated help guide system for the hotspots in this pixel hunting mania.  After the jump is a brief run down on the differences from PC to DS. (Spoilers beware!)

Harem
  • The favorite's sweet cake and scale puzzle and request has been completely removed from the game.  The favorite is already waiting near the steam bath unlike in the PC version where she can be found in the garden.
  • On the steam bath puzzle, the location of the punch card and the medallion slot have been shuffled to the other chamber.  The filthy cloth remains with the boiler.
  • Upon entering the favorite's room, you have to ring the bell to call Aisha.  The hotspot for this is shown when you tap on the chest to zoom in there.  In the PC version, the hotspot is tucked in the room instead.
  • The night of the leopard sequence has been completely removed.  Instead of having the leopard look for the flower needed for the perfume, in the DS version, the flower is on the ground just in front of the cage of the leopard.  Naturally, the entire sequence with the telescope and the flower from the PC version is removed.
  • Upon meeting the prince the first time, the prince will give the key to the cage in the same conversation.
Madargane
  • The entire map of Madargane has been truncated.  Several scenes were inverted to condense the area and remove the scene scrolling from the PC version.
  • The smaller map also means the hair salon, the inn (or restaurant) in the PC version is removed.
  • The electric fan puzzle in the hair salon has been completely removed.  Instead, the fan needed for the truck is retrieved in the same area as the plane wreckage along with the fuel pump.
  • The room to develop the photos is already unlocked whereas in the PC version, you would have to speak with the inn keeper to get the key.
  • To get the tyres, you need to complete the pass (with the photo and the prince's signature) which will open up the docks area.
  • After setting up the battery, the fan and the cable, pull the car down by going to the dashboard and flicking the switch.  Then you can use the fuel pump which takes you to a touch screen puzzle where you rotate the handle with your stylus.
  • To transporting the car into the harem, go to the dashboard with the steering wheel and keep rotating the car keys below the switch.
  • The carpet rug vendor and is misdeeds were completely removed.
Molgrave Desert
  • The vine with the snake sequence is truncated in the DS version.  Just simply tap the vine to descend (and get bitten by the snake).
  • The sequence with the Palmettes and the falcon are removed from the DS version.
  • The sequence with the sand lilies are gone.
  • When Ann descends, she goes straight to Major Goodmorning.
Molgrave Village
  • The village layout has been completely revamped and simplified on the DS version.
  • There is a complete reduction of the number of items to pick up (wooden stick for the spear has been removed, one plant fruit instead of two, coconuts has been removed).
  • The entire spear sequence has been removed.
  • The hook, coconut, and bungee jumping sequence and puzzle has been dropped from the DS version.
  • Fishing for the sand dab has been simplified on the DS.
  • To get the plant fruit, Ann is required to use the glass shard.
  • When making the drum to catch the Polopolo, once the fruit, sand dab and the Polopolo grease has been supplied, the drum skin is instantaneously created.  On the PC version, Ann is required to leave the hut and come back for it.
  • Major Goodmorning on the DS game is with the prince in a suspended hut to the far left.  On PC, Major Goodmorning is in the hut near the sand dab fishing sequence (and consequently the place to make the drum skin).
  • After catching a Polopolo, the meat can be retrieved from the prince in the DS game.  In the PC release, the Polopolo can be seen hanging in the same area, ready to be retrieved.
  • On the DS, Major Goodmorning crafts the leopard trap through a cutscene while in the PC release, Ann does it all herself.
  • Night of the leopard sequence while waiting for the trap is completely removed in the DS release.
Maur River
  • The entire sequence and puzzles have been removed.
  • On the DS version, the ending cutscene with Ann riding the ferry is played automatically.
 Zamarat / Mines
  • The map of Zamarat is greatly reduced to a few key locations.
  • The mining pick puzzle inside the office has been simplified.
  • When inserting the wedge inside the elevator, Ann needs to use the wrench to hammer it.
  • On the DS version, there is an additional mini game where Ann throws emeralds at the polopols.
  • On the DS version, there is an additional mini game where Ann wires the detonator.
  • Most of the sequences in the mines are identical to the PC version other than the notes above.
Rebel Camp
  • The document in Conrad Si's tent has been removed on the DS.
  • The map of the region has been simplified on the DS.
  • Climbing sequence to the Black Vault has been removed.
Black Vault
  • When using the distress flare to smoke out the monkeys, on the DS version, toss it into the turret while the PC version has Ann tossing it into the door.
  • Upon entering the Black Vault, the door in the DS version is already opened.
  • The control panel in the Black Vault is labeled in the DS release.
  • The monkeys blocking the path to the leopard's room has been completely removed. The gauge valve used to scare them away is also gone in the DS release.
  • Inside the treasure room, Malkia leaves one of the dolls behind.
  • Rudolf doesn't confront Malkia in the treasure room.
  • In the DS release, the sorceror hands Malkia the chalk. On PC, the chalk can be picked up from leopard's room at any time.
  • At the end of the ritual, the sorceror gives Malkia access codes to the room to stop the drumming. In the DS version, Vandenard is behind these doors while on PC, he is further inside the room, up the ladders.
  • The sequence and puzzles with the monkeys have been removed. The pharmaceutical items has been removed in the DS version.
  • The interior of the Black Vault has been reduced.
